EL: Maryan, it’s a pleasure to spend a few minutes with someone of your experience. How long have you been in the industry?
Maryan: Since 2010!
EL: And how did you get into trucking in the first place?
Maryan: I started as an everyday, simple CDL driver. I had to work through many companies and build my experience before opening my own company in 2013.
EL: It’s already an accomplishment to do well as a driver, let alone an owner. What do you feel inspires you to be the best driver you can be?
Maryan: Hard work, hard work, and nothing else.
EL: Where do you feel you get that desire to work so hard?
Maryan: Well, you set goals, and you follow the dream. That’s what you must do if you want to see success.
EL: Well said. What do you feel it takes to thrive in trucking?
Maryan: I’ve been through a lot during my driving years. I had to learn communication between companies and gain experience on the road—it’s much learning, from getting your license as a new driver until you begin making enough money.
If you want to move forward in this industry, you need to continue to learn. It’s not something that ends, especially when the market can be so crazy and unpredictable.
EL: That takes much work. What has trucking become to you now?
Maryan: Trucking is a part of my life. I am surrounded by trucking repairs, drivers, brokers, and dispatchers. It becomes what you know and does every day.
EL: Is there any advice you could give new truckers entering the industry?
Maryan: It’s the many ups and downs in this industry but push through, and you’ll see the rewards.
