1. Slow down strapper.

If you drive 3000 miles a week and slow down to conserve even 5% better MPG, you’ll be saving about $107.1 a week, or $428.4. That’s almost enough to buy coffee nowadays.
2. Keep your tires inflated.
Just by keeping tires inflated, you can save up to 3% on your MPG. That comes out to $53.25 a week, or $213 a month! As you know, inflating your tires is cheap, easy, and one of the fastest ways to cut your expenses.
3. Don’t be idle.
It’s tempting to keep your truck running overnight, but that can cost you–.8 gallons an hour, actually. With gas on the rise, that’ll run you about $224 a week, or $896 a month for 8 hours a night!
Pack a blanket or kick-on the fan if you want to fatten your wallet easily.
4. Make a sandwich.
Though it’s tempting, eating out for every meal can run you flat in no time. If you spend $6 a meal for fast food (the average fast food meal cost), you’re sitting at $504 a month. On the other hand, the average homemade meal costs $3, so there’s an easy $252 a month!
And, sad as it may be, consider getting a coffee machine. Your hundred mile brew is gonna kick your budget harder than your kidneys.
5. Take care of your rig.
Though this one takes a little more practice, learning preventative maintenance can save you time, money, and sanity. On average, you can save $100 a month by knowing what your truck needs before it starts to come apart.
BONUS:
Though savings can vary, owner-operators also save big-time with fuel discounts provided by fuel cards. There are tons of fuel cards out there but look for one that can provide tire discounts, financial services and more.
