fmcsa new technologies

The FMCSA is putting its foot down on major technologies for truckers.

As safety regulations continue to increase, truckers will need to be aware that FMCSA new technologies are required of 2027 models.

Here’s what you need to know.

Electronic Stability Control Systems

ESC systems automatically apply individual brakes when a loss of traction is detected, oftentimes beating their drives to the punch in an emergency.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that electronic stability control (ESC) systems could prevent 4,659 crashes, 126 fatalities, and 5,909 injuries annually. That is a massive number of lives saved.

To reap the benefits as soon as possible, the FMCSA requires all 2027-model commercial vehicles over 26,000 lbs. to include ESC systems. Retrofitting will not be required for truckers with older models.

Automatic Emergency Braking Systems

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems automatically apply brakes in response to sensors detecting a potential collision. The Department of Transportation reported a 41% decrease in rear-end crashes when installed AEB systems.

Similar to ESC systems, AEB systems will be required in all 2027-model commercial vehicles over 26,000 lbs. Retrofitting will not be required for truckers with older models.

When AEB and ESC systems are compounded, the FMCSA anticipates a marked reduction in commercial vehicle collisions.

Tips for Financing a New Truck

If you’re considering adding a new truck to your fleet to remain compliant, it can be challenging to have enough cash when your money is held up in invoices.

Factoring gets you faster payments to make purchasing new trucks possible.

Getting started only takes four easy steps:

Complete the delivery of your load.

Submit your rate confirmation and Bill of Lading to ECS.

Provide an invoice to ECS or let us create one for you.

ECS deposits your funds directly to your bank account or ECS fuel card.

The FMCSA is pushing new technology to keep roads safe. With the institution of ESC and AEB systems in 2027 commercial vehicle models, carriers should be aware of these features as they expand their fleets. For carriers looking to purchase new trucks, factoring allows for quicker payments to make expansion possible.
