What is the Emphasis of Operation Safe Driver Week 2025?
This year, law enforcement will be vigilant for reckless and careless driving behaviors.
The CVSA characterizes reckless or careless driving as follows:
- Speeding or driving at a dangerous speed in poor driving conditions
- Distracted driving, including texting, eating, etc.
- Tailgating
- Impaired driving, especially alcohol or drug-related impairment
- Refusing to wear a seat belt
- Sudden or aggressive lane changes
- Ignoring devices used for traffic control, including stoplights, signage, or cones
Is There an Increase in Warnings and Citations During Operation Safe Driver Week?
Yes. The CVSA is transparent about the citations issued during Operation Safe Driver Week.
In 2024,
- 2,439 warnings and 1,583 citations were issued for unsafe driving
- 1,221 warnings and 502 citations for speeding violations
- 328 warnings and 473 citations for not wearing a seat belt
