On March 1, 2026, a semi-truck driver lost control, smashed into a guardrail, and perilously sent his truck tumbling down a Missouri ravine. After finally crashing into a creek bed feeding into the Gasconade River, the driver was shaken but miraculously unharmed.
The 40,000-pound crashed load of tofu he was hauling, on the other hand, was not.
We’re spilling the beans on one of the smelliest, silliest, and wildest incidents in trucking history, and what it reveals about the state of roadside assistance.

The Un-bean-lievable Story
Minutes after the wreck, the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District was on the scene, carefully containing an oil leak that threatened a tofu roast. Once the danger was contained, the department went home, leaving an unanswered question:
Who was responsible for the $25,000 tofu clean-up?
A bureaucratic dance ensued. Agencies deflected the responsibility for three weeks.
Meanwhile, the stench of fermenting bean curd grew thicker, denser, and more potent. Passing motorists were overcome with the truly horrendous crashed load of tofu.
“It was reminiscent of a dead animal, but even worse,” recalled Chief Williams of the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District. “It hit you like a brick wall.”
Then, to make things worse, Mother Nature seemed to grow impatient with the inaction. Flash floods swept the tofu into the Gasconade River, scattering the smell nearly a mile downstream.
As public pressure mounted on politicians, the burden of the beans fell on D&D Towing & Repair.
The small crew plucked decaying soy from the river muck. Company founder, Neal, described the job as one of the most demanding cleanups his team had ever tackled.
A month later, the tofu was finally removed. The crashed load of tofu marked the end of a truly odd chapter for Missouri.
The Reality: Roadside Help Stinks
Where there is a stink, there’s typically something rotten. In this case, the stench of tofu could be traced to a lack of roadside assistance.
Whether it’s tofu or tires, the England Carrier Services Maintenance Express Program makes roadside help a breeze. Simply fill out a form, and the ECS team will coordinate immediate help, schedule your repairs, and get you on the road as soon as possible. No month-long smelliness necessary.
Don’t become the next unprepared trucker to be stranded on the roadside. After all, you reap what you soy.
