Winter is here, which means it’s time to look ahead to see what kind of weather it will bring. Knowing what is coming is vital as you make your winter preparations.

This year, there is the potential for warmer-than-average conditions in some parts of the country. Western Alaska, the Central Great Basin, and Southwest extending through the Southern Plains are areas where this is likely. Additionally, the Southeastern United States and the Atlantic coast will have warmer winter conditions. However, below-normal temperatures are favored from the Pacific Northwest eastward to the western Great Lakes and the Alaska Panhandle.

There are also some areas with a wetter-than-average outlook. These areas include western Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, the northern Rockies, Great Lakes, and the Ohio Valley. Conversely, the chances for drier-than-average conditions are increased in portions of California, the Southwest, the southern Rockies, the southern Plains, the Gulf Coast, and the Southeast.
