We’ve said it again and again… truckers, by nature, are heroes. It takes a special kind of person to work long hours for the good of the country.
But occasionally, on the front lines of American highways, truckers have been known to show a unique kind of bravery. In moments of split-decision thinking of heroic courage, these haulers have changed lives.
Here are just a few of our favorite heroic trucker stories.
Truckers Line Up for a Man in Distress
At about 1 a.m. on a Tuesday night in Detroit, a distraught man threatened to jump off an overpass above a busy interstate.
As the situation grew dire, law enforcement teamed up with some local truckers for a brilliant and beautiful solution.
One by one, thirteen truckers lined up along the interstate to prevent the man from falling a great distance. While most slept, these truckers worked together to save the man’s life. He was shortly escorted to a hospital.
Anonymous Hero Saves Couple from House Fire
At about 3 a.m. in Veyo, Utah, a trucker spotted flames arising from a house. Seeing no one around the house, the driver blared his air horn repeatedly, calling 911 and hoping to get the attention of the neighbors.
When no help came, this hauler took matters into his own hands. After pounding on the door, a woman answered and exited the home. Regaining composure, the woman notified the driver that her husband was still in the home with limited mobility.
The trucker then entered the house, located the man, and carried him from the home.
After saving the lives of these two individuals, this noble driver left the scene without a mention of his name.
The couple feels profound gratitude for this trucker that remains an anonymous hero.
Trucker Drives into Blaze to Help a Suspended Worker
In a small intersection in Santa Rosa, California, a utility worker was suddenly stranded atop a bucket truck when the trailer caught fire.
In a helpless suspended state, the worker knew he only had minutes to spare before the flames would weaken the crane arm.
At just the right moment, a driver put his own safety on the line. Efrain Zepeda, acting quickly, moved his trailer beneath the suspended worker to allow for a safe descent.
Efrain escorted the worker from the smoke and saved his life.
To the drivers that move our nation forward, we are grateful for your daily heroics. Though these stories are extraordinary in their scope, it is the collective work of truckers that helps each of us to live better lives.
