This Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we are highlighting the incredible support that drivers give to food banks!

From keeping grocery stores stocked to fulfilling essential tasks for food banks, truckers play a big role in keeping food on our tables. In the fight against childhood hunger, truck drivers are the first line of defense and often the last to head home at the end of the day. This Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we are highlighting the incredible support that drivers give to food banks!

Truckers Drive Donations

Truckers drive donations, literally. Without the work of drivers across the country, food banks would not be able to stock distribution centers, deploy mobile food pantries, or stage community events. The essential role drivers play in food bank operations cannot be overstated. The services drivers provide help food banks increase access to food assistance for those in rural areas or those who may be unable to leave their homes to receive food boxes.

Truckers Step Up During Disasters

In addition to the essential work drivers do to move the food we eat, they are also among the first to step up during a natural disaster. Truckers keep supplies moving to affected areas and provide food banks with much-needed support as communities rebuild and assess damage. As recovery efforts progress, drivers also bring in construction materials, temporary shelters, fresh water, and even help with debris removal. The work of truck drivers, in partnership with food banks, has a significant impact on an area’s food security following a natural disaster.

Truckers Look to do Good

Truckers provide incredible support to food banks through their daily work, but many seek to make an even bigger impact. Many drivers go out of their way to help fight hunger by donating their time and even their equipment to food banks and other organizations. Sometimes, rerouting food shipments that would have gone to waste or even delivering food for free to food banks. In addition to these efforts, there are many organizations that truckers participate in that do good, including Wreaths Across America, Truckers Against Trafficking, Trucker Buddy International, and Feeding America.

This Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we are proud to thank drivers not only for their essential role in our economy and supply chain, but for the good they do. Learn more about how drivers can get involved in the fight against childhood hunger here: https://www.oneagainstchildhoodhunger.com/
