Whenever the supply chain is under significant strain, the FMCSA works hard to ensure exemptions are made.

The conclusion of 2022 brought about some unique challenges for truckers. The FMCSA issued several exemptions extending into the new year to combat the effects of challenging market conditions.

To ensure you are aware of any qualifying exemptions you may be missing, we’ve compiled some of the recent emergency hours of service exemptions you should know for 2023.

Colorado

Exemption title: Colorado December 2022 HOS Exemption for Heating Fuel Transporters

Effective dates: 12/20/2022 – 01/31/2023

Description: Hours of service exemptions for propane, heating fuels, and natural gas are permitted to accommodate a shortage.

 

Kansas

Exemption title: Kansas Executive Order No. 22-09

Effective dates: 12/21/2022 – 01/20/2023

Description: Hours of service exemptions for propane, heating fuels, and natural gas are permitted to accommodate a shortage.

 

Kentucky

Exemption title: Kentucky Official Emergency Order 113082

Effective dates: 12/27/2022 – 01/20/2023

Description: Hours of service exemptions for agricultural and feed products are permitted to accommodate a shortage.

 

Louisiana

Exemption title: Louisiana Proclamation Number 183 JBE 2022

Effective dates: 12/13/2022 – 01/12/2023

Description: Hours of service exemptions for goods “necessary to respond to [tornado, storm, and weather hazards].”

 

Minnesota

Exemption title: Minnesota Executive Order 22-24

Effective dates: 12/28/2022 – 01/12/2023

Description: Hours of service exemptions for propane are permitted to accommodate a shortage.

 

Missouri

Exemption title: Minnesota Executive Order 22-24

Effective dates: 12/21/2022 – 01/03/2023

Description: Hours of service exemptions for propane are permitted to accommodate a shortage.

 

North Carolina

Exemption title: North Carolina Executive Order No. 274

Effective dates: 12/20/2022 – 01/19/2023

North Dakota

Exemption title: North Dakota Executive Order 2022-11

Utah

Exemption title: Wyoming Executive Order 2022-06
