The CVSA Roadcheck 2025 brings new rules, new emphases, and the opportunity to evaluate your truck’s safety.

Posted & filed under Carrier Connection.

The annual CVSA Roadcheck is just on the horizon. This year, the Roadcheck is introducing several new rules to their inspection process.

Here’s everything you need to know about the CVSA Roadcheck 2025.

When is the CVSA Roadcheck 2025?

The Roadcheck will occur May 13-15 throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

What is the Emphasis of the CVSA Roadcheck 2025?

This year’s emphasis will be on tire safety and false records of duty status (RODS).

For tires, inspectors will be evaluating the following criteria:

  • The tread depth of steer tires should be a minimum of 4/32 inches. For all other tires, the minimum is 2/32 inches.
  • The tire structure should lack sidewall bulges, tread separation, and improper repairs like shabby patching.
  • The tread and sidewall should possess no leaks.

If you need new tires for the Roadcheck, skip to the bottom for deals on steer, drive, and trailer tires.

For RODS, inspectors will be assessing the following:

  • ELDs will be evaluated to assess for signs of tampering.
  • Exceptions will be reviewed to ensure that guidelines are appropriately followed.
  • Signs of “ghost drivers” will be evaluated: false claims of co-drivers to confabulate hours-of-service claims.

Out-of-service criteria were also updated to make the inspections as fair as possible.

Updates to Out-of-Service Criteria

New inspection rules were announced to include the following:

  • Inoperative brakes caused by unplugged electrical cables or disconnected service gladhands will constitute an out-of-service condition.
  • Cracked or broken U-bolt bottom plates will also warrant an out-of-service condition.

Otherwise, inspections will typically follow a Level I routine. This includes evaluations of:

  • Brake performance
  • Tire conditions
  • Cargo securement
  • Function of lights
  • License validity
  • Medical certifications
  • RODS accuracy
  • Drug/alcohol impairment

If these criteria are not met, the carrier will risk being sidelined until the issues are resolved.
