Even your four-legged companion&#8217;s persistent request for a bio-break can interfere with your focus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">Enter Distracted Driving Awareness Month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">Distracted Driving Awareness Month<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">National Safety Council (NSC)<\/a> reports that eight lives are lost each day in crashes attributed to distracted driving. Hundreds more are injured.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">To help address this serious issue, the NSC has launched a program to encourage drivers to take a no distraction pledge for the month. And it\u2019s for good reason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">At 55 mph, reading or writing a 5-second text takes your eyes off the road while you travel the distance of a football field.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">In 2020, 3,142 people died in crashes caused by distracted driving.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">In 2019, more than 424,000 people were injured in crashes involving distracted drivers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">About 20% of people who die in crashes involving a distracted driver are not in vehicles\u2015they are walking, riding their bikes, or otherwise outside a car.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">Drivers who text are 23 times more likely to be involved in a safety-critical event.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">In addition to the harm that distracted driving can cause, truck drivers have financial ramifications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">Drivers can be fined up to $2,750.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">Two violations will put the driver out of service for 60 days.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">Three violations can result in up to 120 days out of service.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">The driver\u2019s employer can be fined up to $11,000.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">Resources and Training<\/span><\/h4>\n<p id=\"ext-gen245\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">As we enter the last weeks of the month, it\u2019s important not to let efforts to eliminate distracted driving wane with the end of April. Several resources and training exercises are available to help you become a distraction-free driver for the long haul.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmcsa.dot.gov\/safety\/driver-safety\/cmv-driving-tips-driver-distraction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA)<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">National Safety Council (NSC)<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhtsa.gov\/risky-driving\/distracted-driving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/transportationsafety\/distracted_driving\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">Center for Disease Control (CDC)<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif\">If we all do our part in the driver or passenger seat, we can make the road a safer place for everyone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<\/p>\n<p><em>The\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.englandlogistics.com\/england-carrier-services\/\"><em>England Carrier Services (ECS) division<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0offers various services for carriers ranging from maintenance to support.
