When we imagine a welcoming person, we likely envision a warm, inviting personality. These people are affable, approachable, and an automatic ally. Though Lisa certainly fits the bill, she also enlarges on the adjective in her approach to life\u2014welcoming all good, all gain, and all growth into her story. If you\u2019re fortunate enough to be penciled into this narrative, you\u2019ll find a wonderful story with a bright protagonist.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Lisa began her career at England Logistics as an Authorized Agent Business Development Coach in 2019, and she\u2019s been killing it ever since.<\/span><\/div>\n

EL:<\/span> <\/strong>Lisa<\/span>,<\/span> I’m super excited to sit down with you. We haven’t had the opportunity to interact very <\/span>frequently<\/span>, but I<\/span> have only heard a tremendous amount of good about you<\/span>,<\/span> especially your charisma and <\/span>your kindness. <\/span>W<\/span>ith that being all said, can you just first tell me a little bit about<\/span> h<\/span>ow you came to <\/span>England <\/span>L<\/span>ogistics<\/span> and <\/span>how you’ve progresse<\/span>d?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Lisa<\/span>: <\/span><\/strong>Let me try and keep it<\/span> to<\/span> a 30,000<\/span> ft.<\/span> overvie<\/span>w. <\/span>So<\/span>, <\/span>a bit about my<\/span> background<\/span>:<\/span> I graduated from <\/span>Utah <\/span>S<\/span>tate in food s<\/span>cience<\/span>,<\/span> chemistry and<\/span> nutrition. <\/span>In fact, one of my favorite parts about England is <\/span>being on the wellness committee.<\/span> Anyway, <\/span>I started working for Smith’s <\/span>F<\/span>ood and <\/span>D<\/span>rug centers i<\/span>n a <\/span>distribution center<\/span>. I did that for eight years<\/span>, a<\/span>nd then I did a lot of d<\/span>ifferent things between<\/span> then<\/span> and <\/span>now<\/span>. Eventually,<\/span> I was actually<\/span> recruited<\/span> through<\/span> LinkedIn<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

L<\/span>ogistics is something t<\/span>hat<\/span> people <\/span>don\u2019t <\/span>really<\/span> think about<\/span>,<\/span> like <\/span>how we get <\/span>the <\/span>food that’s on our plate<\/span>, <\/span>or<\/span> the furniture that’s in our homes and things.<\/span> <\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n
<\/div>\n
S<\/span>o<\/span>,<\/span> this was a very new arena for me and I<\/span> was more <\/span>curious than anything. I interviewed with<\/span> TJ<\/span>,<\/span> and <\/span>I <\/span>was<\/span> actually<\/span> offered the job<\/span>!<\/span> This<\/span> was very<\/span> exciting for <\/span>me, but <\/span>it was a <\/span>completely new industry.<\/span> But,<\/span> I was at a point in my last job where I was <\/span>wanted <\/span>to<\/span> try <\/span>something new. It seemed like a great fit and a good opportunity. <\/span>And now<\/span>, it’s above and beyond <\/span><\/span>anything that I’ve ever imagined in terms of a company and<\/span> the people <\/span>I work with.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

EL<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong> T<\/span>hat’s wonderful. <\/span>It\u2019s <\/span>always fascinating to hear the diversit<\/span>y of previous career experience<\/span> from <\/span>such talented individuals. Though there is some overlap between the <\/span>logistics industry<\/span> and nutrition <\/span>industry,<\/span> I’m curious to hear what specifically <\/span>appealed to you, especially culturally<\/span>,<\/span> about England <\/span>Logistics.<\/span> W<\/span>hat <\/span>was it that really attracted you?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Lisa<\/span>:<\/span><\/strong> Much<\/span> like any<\/span> other<\/span> interview<\/span> I\u2019d <\/span>prepare for<\/span>,<\/span> I pulled<\/span> England L<\/span>ogistics up online and was scouring <\/span>through the websit<\/span>e. W<\/span>hen<\/span> I noticed the<\/span> core values<\/span>, I<\/span> read about<\/span> the importance of<\/span> career, open <\/span>communication, acc<\/span>ountability, <\/span>celebration, and hard work.<\/span> A<\/span>ll<\/span> of these things really appealed to me. <\/span>Also<\/span>, I was reaching a<\/span> point in my life where work<\/span>–<\/span>life balance was<\/span> becoming<\/span> very important. <\/span>England <\/span>was the<\/span> whole package, but that in particular was really what drew me h<\/span>ere<\/span>.<\/span> England <\/span>L<\/span>ogistics really <\/span><\/span>lives and breathes their core values<\/span>, and <\/span>that has really impressed me<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

EL<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong> <\/span>D<\/span>efinitely. I mean, <\/span>t<\/span>his interview i<\/span>n itself is a<\/span> t<\/span>estament to what I’m about to say, but you are the <\/span>epitome of those values<\/span>.<\/span> By<\/span> grace of us being<\/span> here is evidence of that.<\/span> But for you now, given all that <\/span>you’ve become and all that you are, what is important to you now? What are your priorities? <\/span>I<\/span>f <\/span>they <\/span>have changed over time, why <\/span>have they?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Lisa<\/span>:<\/span> <\/strong>I think one core value that’s the most important<\/span> to <\/span>me is<\/span> accountability. An<\/span>d I think that having that <\/span>as<\/span> a part of our culture<\/span> has impacted me personally.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Accountability<\/span> is something t<\/span>hat<\/span> drive<\/span>s<\/span> me because I am not just accountable to myself, but I’m also <\/span>accountable to my team. <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n
<\/div>\n
Outside of work<\/span>, I’m accou<\/span>ntable to my friends and my family.<\/span> That value <\/span>is so <\/span>important to me<\/span> to <\/span>really help<\/span> me<\/span> elevate.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

To speak more generally, in terms of career path, I do like that England does a good job of supplying us with meaningful resources. I mean, the company theme Own It! really aligns with the accountability component and owning my own job as though it’s my business. I think that has been a good focal point for me to focus on.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Also,<\/span> my team has such high standards <\/span>that<\/span> help <\/span>me to<\/span> elevate<\/span> every day. <\/span>That higher standard<\/span> has <\/span>made me<\/span> a<\/span> better <\/span>person, both professionally and personally<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

EL<\/span>: <\/span><\/strong>I can<\/span> empathize <\/span>with <\/span>many of the points you made<\/span>, but<\/span> I<\/span> want<\/span> to <\/span>hon<\/span>e in on<\/span> a few things. I love <\/span>this idea that, if a culture is powerful enough<\/span>,<\/span> it can even permea<\/span>te our personal life and our personal <\/span>values<\/span>. <\/span>I <\/span>also <\/span>really love this idea that you<\/span> were<\/span> making<\/span> at<\/span> the conclusion of your answer, <\/span>that the <\/span>performance of our team can help us become better people.<\/span> I<\/span>n corporate speak, we talk ab<\/span>out synergy <\/span>all the time, but<\/span> s<\/span>ynergy is nothing if it’s not backed by value.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Could you maybe t<\/span>hink of a few examples of times <\/span>when you\u2019ve felt that<\/span> kind of<\/span> synergy?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Lisa<\/span>: <\/span><\/strong>I feel like there are <\/span>examples of that all the time daily.<\/span> So<\/span>,<\/span> w<\/span>e have agents that are just one<\/span>–<\/span>man <\/span>operations, <\/span>a<\/span>nd<\/span> then we have agents that have<\/span> twenty <\/span>reps. <\/span>I’m thinking of a person that <\/span>st<\/span>arted out as <\/span>one person and has<\/span> just <\/span>slowly grown his team. T<\/span>hat’s been inspirational to me<\/span>.<\/span> I wasn’t here wh<\/span>en he <\/span>started in England, but I\u2019ve been able to watch his <\/span>accomplishments<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

W<\/span>e have all the<\/span>se<\/span> resource<\/span>s here and <\/span>the luxury of sharing those resources with our agents.<\/span> A<\/span>s a result, <\/span>I’ve really b<\/span>een able to see that success.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

EL<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong> <\/span>I <\/span>thi<\/span>nk that’s super noble. W<\/span>e’ve got a very unique cultural value of emphasizing <\/span>relationshi<\/span>ps in <\/span>the customer experience, <\/span>and that makes thing<\/span>s particularly rewarding for us. <\/span>I think it’s probably one of <\/span>the reasons why you’re so successful is that<\/span> your<\/span> motivation stems from the success that those that you <\/span>associate with.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

In fact, an<\/span>ybody that’s attained the <\/span>level <\/span>of success that you have <\/span>must <\/span>possess the<\/span> sufficient level of <\/span>motivation, right?<\/span> It’s inevitable. And so what has been the fuel in y<\/span>our case besides client growth that’s <\/span>helped you to continue on to make it to this point?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Li<\/span>sa<\/span>: <\/span><\/strong>I’m going to defer t<\/span>o my team again. E<\/span>verybody on my team is so driven and they’re also so willing <\/span>to help<\/span>. Whenever I have a question, people are always willing to help, and <\/span>if they don’t have the <\/span>answer, <\/span>they<\/span> show me the way to get there.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Also, h<\/span>avi<\/span>ng o<\/span>ur fearless leader, Ryan. H<\/span>e<\/span>‘s kept the eye on the ball and c<\/span>ontinues to drive us forward. <\/span>We take moments to celebrate our successes and <\/span>get <\/span>the <\/span>validation of the job<\/span> well done<\/span>.<\/span> He helps r<\/span>emind us that we can always do more for our customers.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

I’ll be<\/span> honest;<\/span> accountability and <\/span>all these things are sometimes not c<\/span>omfortable because you’re always <\/span>pushed outside of your comfort level.<\/span> But again, <\/span>going <\/span>back to<\/span> improving myself, not just <\/span>from a <\/span>professional standpoint but <\/span>from a personal standpoint, <\/span>that h<\/span>as come in<\/span> a faster amount of time than I <\/span>have<\/span> experienced in other places.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

EL<\/span>:<\/span><\/strong> I appreciate <\/span>that <\/span>there’s a<\/span> lot of humility in your answer, with<\/span> reference your team being a <\/span>massive s<\/span>ource of motivation or individuals under your stewardship or leaders<\/span> helping you along the <\/span>way.<\/span> I have an appreciation for this idea that some of<\/span> the cultural values are there <\/span>to supplement our <\/span>motivation as well.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

I <\/span>also understand that as <\/span>we’ve talked, you’ve referenced so many different contributing factors in<\/span> how <\/span>you’v<\/span>e been successful in regard to <\/span>people and circumstances.<\/span> I\u2019d like to dive <\/span>into some of the specifics <\/span>of times in your career t<\/span>hat were more defining for you, w<\/span>hether they were decisions that you had to <\/span>make, or they were moments, or maybe even setbacks tha<\/span>t you had to respond to.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

C<\/span>an you think of <\/span>times throughout your career and your professional deve<\/span>lopment that have defined you?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Lisa<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong> <\/span>During <\/span>the time when I was in a <\/span>management position, that was probably <\/span>one of the greatest <\/span>learning experiences, because h<\/span>avin<\/span>g to be in a leadership role, it\u2019s just <\/span>not just your normal <\/span>job <\/span>description responsibilities. You<\/span> have to have that state of mind <\/span>that you’re setting an example. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

T<\/span>here’s <\/span>a lot more to leadership than <\/span>just the title.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n
A<\/span>nother defining moment<\/span> for me was<\/span> just making the decision <\/span>to com<\/span>e here. Everything that had me <\/span>come <\/span>to this<\/span> point had led m<\/span>e to<\/span> moving from something that I was comfortable.<\/span> To make<\/span> that leap of <\/span>faith and starting at England Logistics in an industry th<\/span>at I had no idea about was <\/span>very scar<\/span>y.<\/span> But a<\/span>t the <\/span>same time, there was an <\/span>internal voice inside me <\/span>that said<\/span>,<\/span> \u201c<\/span>Y<\/span>ou know, I think this is <\/span>going to be good <\/span>for you and it’s going to push you and it’s going to challenge you, but I think the rewards are going to be <\/span><\/span>
great.<\/span>\u201d<\/span> It\u2019s<\/span> definitely been o<\/span>ne of the best decisions of my life. I <\/span>owe a lot to England Logistics<\/span>.<\/span> England <\/span>offers all the tools and there’s no ceiling<\/span>.<\/span> As long <\/span>as you put in the hard work, <\/span>there\u2019s<\/span> no <\/span>cap to where <\/span>you can end up.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

EL<\/span>: <\/span><\/strong>You know, in<\/span> some of these i<\/span>nterviews that I’ve conducted, <\/span>these moments that are<\/span> so defining <\/span>are typically <\/span>catalyze<\/span>d by an element of uncertainty.<\/span> Delving into the logistics industry and taking a risk <\/span>that ultimately has dividends that <\/span>you don\u2019t know yet<\/span>\u2014<\/span>I <\/span>just offer my kudos, t<\/span>o yo<\/span>u for not only taking <\/span>the risk, but also capitalizing on the risk and cultivating the people that have been associated with that <\/span>risk.<\/span> I think therein lies the power of true leadership<\/span>;<\/span> not only making strategic decisions that have to do <\/span><\/span>
with some of these<\/span> elements of risk, but then also making people around you better along the way. And <\/span><\/span>you’ve been a shining example of that.<\/span><\/div>\n

Lisa<\/span>: <\/span><\/strong>Thank you.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

EL<\/span>: <\/span><\/strong>And I want to ask you with that backdrop <\/span>in mind, <\/span>what’s next<\/span>? <\/span>Where do you want to go? <\/span>Where do you want to<\/span> be? Who do you want to help? And what would you like your future to look like? <\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n

Lisa<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong> <\/span>Now <\/span>that I’m just<\/span> about two years into this,<\/span> I’m really starting to get my legs and I’m feeling much <\/span>more co<\/span>nfident<\/span> in <\/span>my position.<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n

But I also realize t<\/span>here’s so much to<\/span> learn still.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n
<\/div>\n
I<\/span> think that the market has <\/span>never <\/span>been normal<\/span> since I’ve been with the agent division. <\/span>So, there’s always<\/span> things I’m constantly <\/span>learning, <\/span>especially with the whole i<\/span>mpact that COVID h<\/span>as had. But right now my goal is to still be the <\/span>best <\/span>busin<\/span>ess development coach that I can possibly be. I st<\/span>ill think there’s a lot of room there to <\/span><\/span>improve too.<\/span><\/div>\n

I don’t think that <\/span>no one ever <\/span>totally <\/span>perfects<\/span> themselves, I don\u2019t think that is something you can ever <\/span>attain, but I think that striving to <\/span>const<\/span>antly be <\/span>better is r<\/span>eally what my focus is on right now, just <\/span>because I know there’s still so much to learn.<\/span> I have no doubt <\/span>that I will <\/span>get there<\/span> because of my team. <\/span>Everybody has been super <\/span>willing to help, even though sometimes we’re in compet<\/span>ition with<\/span> each other. <\/span>That’s kind of my <\/span>focus right now is just <\/span>to continually grow and be the best LC<\/span> that I can be.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

EL<\/span>: <\/span><\/strong>That’s the vision! I think that the idea of, \u201cI want to just be a better cultivator, a better coach\u201d: <\/span>T<\/span>hat really propels some of the greate<\/span>st leaders t<\/span>o be the best they can be.<\/span> The focus is on the gr<\/span>owth <\/span>of everybody else. Then there is<\/span> this beautiful, almost mir<\/span>aculous occurrence that happens: B<\/span>y helping <\/span>others become the best version of themselves, al<\/span>most inevitably as leaders, <\/span>we become the best version <\/span>of ourselves. And we often see them reflected in us.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Lisa<\/span><\/strong>: <\/strong><\/span>Yeah,<\/span> absolutely. Whenever<\/span> I’ve put in hard work and <\/span>I have done the best that I can, <\/span>sometimes <\/span>opportunities just present themselves organically<\/span> too<\/span>, you know?<\/span> I think <\/span>maybe that’s not the path that <\/span>everybody wants to take, but at this point in my life, I think that that is <\/span>something I’m very content with. <\/span>I know that<\/span>, <\/span>if I put in the hard work, <\/span>sometimes opportunit<\/span>ies just present themselves and<\/span> I welcome <\/span>those opportun<\/span>ities as I go along.<\/span> But in the meantime, l<\/span>ike I said, I’m <\/span>super happy and content doing <\/span><\/span>
what I’m doing and trying to be the best that I can be.<\/span><\/div>\n

EL<\/span>: <\/span><\/strong>Yeah, it does. It does seem the opportunities follow those that possess that sort of mindset. And <\/span>I ant<\/span>icipate that that will always be the case for you, especially given how relentless your drive is to <\/span>assist others.<\/span> And I think as a sort of testimony to <\/span>your ability to do<\/span> so, I personally have felt <\/span>fortunate <\/span>to <\/span>indirectly <\/span>have <\/span>been coached in this intervi<\/span>ew. <\/span>I feel more mo<\/span>tivated to go forward, and<\/span> to do good. And <\/span>so I just want to thank you, fir<\/span>stly, for taking the time, <\/span>and <\/span>t<\/span>o give us some of your history, but more so I <\/span>want to thank you for giving us the history and the pers<\/span>on that you’ve decided to be.<\/span> Y<\/span>our wave of <\/span>influence is large becaus<\/span>e you’ve chosen to be the best <\/span>possible version of yourself.<\/span> And so, Lisa, thanks <\/span>again.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
