Workers, like truckers, often put their lives on the double-yellow line to keep the nation moving. It is an important token of courtesy to be familiar with work zone safety to make their lives easier and safer.<\/p>\n<p>Before delving into best practices for workplace safety, consider these numbers regarding work zones.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><u>The Facts<\/u><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2020, 863 workers lost their lives to traffic collisions. In 2021, that number rose to <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.fhwa.dot.gov\/wz\/resources\/facts_stats.htm#:~:text=Total%20work%20zone%20fatalities%20by,and%20in%202021%20are%20956.\">956<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>In 1997, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) proposed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwzaw.org\/history.html\">National Work Zone Week<\/a> for safety awareness. Today, this week is observed nationwide.<\/li>\n<li>Though numbers can vary from state, offenders can pay up to <a href=\"https:\/\/le.utah.gov\/xcode\/Title41\/Chapter6a\/41-6a-S209.html\">$170<\/a> in fines for going 1-10 mph over a work zone speed limit.
