The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) released a regulation requiring most carriers and drivers who are currently required to maintain paper records of duty status (RODS) to install Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) on their vehicles. The regulation went into effect December 18, 2017. This is the date that inspectors began issuing citations and fines for non-compliance.
If a truck is still non-compliant by April 1, 2018 the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will officially put the vehicle out-of-service.
